“Clear physio and medical needs” – New PWR deal set to boost player welfare in Women’s rugby

Bristol Bears prop Simi Pam has welcomed a groundbreaking new partnership between Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) and Physique Management Company (Physique), an agreement set to directly benefit hundreds of women’s rugby players over the next three years.

The collaboration, which places a strong emphasis on player welfare, will see Physique provide tailored player recovery packs and essential medical equipment to support PWR teams throughout the season. These recovery packs, developed in partnership with the PWR medical team, will include foam rollers, massage balls, and resistance bands to aid in match preparation and rehabilitation.

Physique, with more than 25 years of experience in supplying sports healthcare products, is no stranger to elite-level sport. Already trusted by teams in British Athletics, England Netball, GB Hockey, and British Judo, Physique’s expertise will be a significant asset to PWR clubs across the league.

Simi Pam, who plays for Bristol Bears and also works as a locum doctor, expressed her support for the partnership, highlighting the importance of physical preparation as the women’s game continues to evolve. “Women’s rugby is getting faster and more physical every season so it’s crucial the players are as well prepared as possible for matches,” Pam said. “Player welfare is at the heart of this partnership. By collaborating with club representatives, the player packs will provide players with key equipment to support them pre- and post-game so they can perform at their best.”

In addition to the recovery packs, the partnership will offer vital support to medical and physio teams. From pitchside first aid to rehab, exercise, and trauma care, Physique will ensure that clubs have access to the best products and expertise available.

Kevin Peters, Managing Director of Physique, emphasized the need for specialized medical and physio support for female athletes. “Women’s rugby players have clear physio and medical needs before, during and after matches in order to perform at the highest level,” Peters said. “We are looking forward to working with the PWR to make sure player welfare is the priority and will work with physio and medical teams to make sure they have access to the best products and support.”

The player recovery packs have been created in collaboration with the Women’s Medical Advisory Group, club representatives, and managed by PWR’s Medical Services Officer, Holly Peace. These packs are designed to aid players in their physical preparation and rehabilitation, ensuring they have the resources needed to maintain peak performance throughout the season.

An additional highlight of the partnership is the inclusion of Tiger Tapes, a top choice in elite sports taping and strapping. This agreement makes Tiger Tapes the Official Taping and Strapping brand for PWR, ensuring that clubs have access to the best taping and strapping products for injury prevention and recovery.

Holly Peace, PWR’s Medical Services Officer, played a key role in the development of the player packs, working alongside the Women’s Medical Advisory Group and club representatives. Her efforts further highlight the growing professionalism and commitment to player health within women’s rugby.

As the game continues to grow in intensity and visibility, this partnership between PWR and Physique represents a crucial step in supporting athletes and ensuring their well-being. With Physique’s trusted products and expertise, players will have the tools they need to perform at the highest level and stay in peak physical condition.

The next few years look promising for women’s rugby, and this new partnership marks a significant milestone in the sport’s development.
