Despite his respect for the former England coach, it’s fair to say he wasn’t a fan of his methods.

“Stuart’s regime had too many alpha male coaches – guys who were great as individuals but intimidating as a group. They weren’t approachable or the kind of blokes who would put their arm around a player or judge the mood of the squad. And there weren’t enough players with big personalities.
