Took the offload from Reffell to break the line, before supplying the pass for Alex Mann’s try. Sometimes took too long to get the ball going and some box kicks went awol despite a routinely good effort from the boot. Kept the England defenders in two minds about his direction of play. 1. Gareth Thomas – 6.5
Kept his nerve and outmanoeuvred Will Stuart to win a key scrum on his 5m at 11 minutes. Yet scrum-time inconsistency followed, as he was penalised for instability with the England pack on the front foot at 41 minutes. Off for Corey Domachowski (59).
2. Elliot Dee – 6.5
Solid early line out despite pressure on his own 5m line. Kicked the ball off the tee to deny Ford his chance at the conversion. A mixed bag at the scrum, as he was overpowered in the middle of the park, but stood tall when it counted close to his line. Off for Ryan Elias (54).
3. Kieron Assiratti – 5.5
Praised by Will Stuart ahead of the match despite inexperience. Took a high hit from Chessum at 11 minutes, yet continued unscathed. Jostled with Marler at scrum re-sets, and took two heavy hits from Sam Underhill. Put his body on the line for Wales today. Off for Archie Griffin (54).
4. Dafydd Jenkins (c) – 7.5
Comfortable to make the line-out calls despite being pinned on try-line in the early goings. Won the front ball battle on Welsh put in. Courageous in contact, and wore his heart on his sleeve for his nation.
5. Adam Beard – 6
Big turnover on his try line at 44 minutes, as he halted England’s early second half serge. Impressive around the park and at the set-piece, but not a performance that had him shining in the spotlight. Off for Will Rowlands (67).
6. Alex Mann – 7
Contributed an important try at 37 minutes, as he supported the running line of Tomos Williams, and marked his second Wales cap with his second test try. Positive signs in his early career goings, the future looks bright for the young back row. Off for Taine Basham (67).
