Harlequins head coach Danny Wilson is sure his side will be a true version of themselves on Sunday when they travel to France, and take on the mighty five-time Champions Cup winners Toulouse. Harlequins have made a habit of taking games down to the wire, sometimes unnecessarily, however, Wilson only wants to do things the Quins way this weekend.
Speaking in a recent Harlequins press conference, Wilson said; “Our mindset is to go there and be the best version of us,” said the former Cardiff Blues Head Coach.
“Yes we have to deal with them, but if we talk all week about just them, we won’t put our own stamp on the game. We are going to have to try, and score tries to win this game. We are not going to go there and go, three points, six points, nine points, thats not going to happen.
Quins’ fans will be relieved to know the side are going to try and ‘swing the bat’ again. Harlequins are not going to take a reserved approach to Toulouse, and recognise the need for a high-octane affair if they are to beat the second placed Top14 team.
“We are going there to score tries. To beat Toulouse, in Toulouse you are going to have to score a fair few tries. No one gave us a chance to win in Bordeaux and we did that, and not many people will give us a chance to beat Toulouse.”
They will face a pretty formidable pack this weekend, and Wilson knows his side must be able to go toe-to-toe physically, when the two sides pack down at the set-piece.
“We have got to accept that, we have to be aware of what they bring and how we deal with it but also put our identity on this game. We drew on the Bordeaux game, where we faced up, Northampton, we faced up there,” added the 47-year-old.
“So, we have faced up against sides who wanna play as much rugby as we do. Our mindset is to go there and be the best version of us. Yes, we have to deal with them, but if we talk all week about just them, we won’t put our own stamp on the game.
“If we are just trying to contain Toulouse, you are going to come unstuck.”
