Saracens have confirmed the singing of Liam Williams, with the Wales and British & Irish Lions fullback returning to the Premiership for his second stint with the club. Williams previously played for Saracens from 2017 to 2019, where he racked up 30 appearances for the North London club.
The club announced Williams arrival on social media platform X, with the legendary Welsh flyer donning the iconic black strip of Sarries. The 33-year-old was heavily rumored to be returning to the UK after his contract expired with the Kubota Spears in the Japan Rugby League One. Williams had been out in the Far East for the past 2023 and 2024 seasons, following his departure from Cardiff Rugby amidst a financially straining time for the capital city club.
Williams had quite the impressive run with Saracens throughout his previous two years at the club, as across the two campaigns he managed to run in 25 tries for the Men in Black. Williams was at his very best throughout the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, as Saracens won back to back Premiership titles, as well as the league and Champions Cup double in the latter campaign.
The 33-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the side and will look to have a big impact upon his return to NW4.
“The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for me in all honesty. My pregnant wife and I recently made the difficult decision not to return to Kubota Spears for a second season, a club that welcomed me so warmly 12 months ago after the World Cup.
“One of the Sarries management contacted my agent to see if I would be interested in finishing the season with them due to injuries within the squad, and it didn’t take long to say yes!
“I thoroughly enjoyed my previous time with the club. It was a special time in both my career as well as the club winning multiple trophies, and the unique culture of the club left a mark with me.
“I can’t wait to join the squad, following the birth of my first child, and help them achieve their goals.”
