Hogg, who has faced legal and personal challenges since retiring from the sport at the end of last season, was seen in the North-East this week, where it is understood he spoke to the Falcons about a potential deal.
Scotland’s all-time leading try scorer is set to face trial in July after pleading not guilty to a domestic charge of acting in an abusive manner towards the mother of his four children.
The report also indicates that while no agreement has been reached and a move appears unlikely at this stage, the possibility for further talks remains open later in the summer.
