England’s Joe Marler ignited a Haka debate earlier this week, calling the iconic New Zealand ritual “ridiculous” and suggesting it be “binned” in a post on X.
The 34-year-old took to X again on Thursday to clarify his comments, saying he “should have done better at explaining things” and is “grateful” for the cultural insights he’s since received.

Apology Accepted? Marler Speaks Out
“Hey rugby fans. Just wanted to jump on here and say sorry to any New Zealand fans I upset with my poorly articulated tweet earlier in the week,” Marler posted on X. “I meant no malice in asking for it to be binned, just want to see the restrictions lifted to allow for a response without sanction.”
England’s Haka Response – Fans React
Today, as the All Blacks performed their famous Haka, England’s squad marched up to the halfway line while the crowd belted out “Swing Low.” Fans had plenty to say:
“Judging Off That Haka, This One’s Personal!”
One fan posted, “Judging off that Haka and the reaction, this one is gonna be personal!”
“No F*s Given”**
A second chimed in, “Love that, Haka met with a step forward and more than a few smiles and laughs. No f***s given.”
“Spicy Haka!”
Another simply put, “That Haka seemed spicy.”
“Disrespectful or Passionate?”
A fourth remarked, “The English crowd singing while the haka is on!? I thought we agreed that it’s tasteless to do such!? Disrespectful.”
“Blockbuster Stuff!”
And another said, “That’s as close to the Haka any team has come in years. Blockbuster stuff.”

2025 Six Nations fixtures confirmed, England handed worst possible start
As per this year, the 2025 Championship will see BBC and ITV sharing coverage in the UK, with S4C offering Welsh language options. France Television will be the home of the Championship for French fans, RTE and Virgin Media will once again cover the games in Ireland. In Italy, Sky Italia will continue their coverage of the Championship in 2025. The host broadcast coverage will also be complemented by widespread international broadcast coverage and a World Feed service.
