Twickenham, the Boks’ New Stomping Ground?
The iconic 80,000-seater has become a familiar hunting ground for the Springboks. Over the past two years, they’ve clashed with Wales and New Zealand at rugby’s hallowed turf, and their supporters have clearly taken to making it feel like home.
Louder Than the Hosts!
Today was something special. The away fans seemed to outnumber the locals, with celebrations for South Africa’s tries booming around the stadium, rivaling the cheers for England’s scores.
Fan Reactions: Social Media Erupts
One England supporter lamented: “It seems Twickenham has more Springbok fans than the home crowd.”
Times rugby writer Will Kelleher joked: “You might think this is an unscientific poll, but I’ve just gone around Twickenham town and by my reckoning, 406% of fans are South African today.”
Another fan asked: “Who is the home team? England? Or South Africa? Serious question.”
A Twickenham regular of 20 years added: “I have never seen as many opposition fans as the South Africans today.”
