Ireland delivered their most impressive performance of the autumn internationals, dismantling Fiji 52-17 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. After a tough loss to the All Blacks and a nerve-wracking win over Argentina, Andy Farrell’s men came out firing against a Fijian side who were no match for the hosts.
Caelan Doris Leads the Way
The Irish captain, one of eight players to keep their spot following the victory over the Pumas, wasted no time, powering over in the fourth minute to open the scoring.
Sam Prendergast’s Moment of Glory
Sam Prendergast marked his debut with a penalty, but his joy was short-lived as he was sent to the sin-bin moments later. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Ireland stayed in control, with Josh van der Flier touching down in the 14th minute to extend the lead.
Fiji Struggling to Keep Up
Try-scorer Craig Casey and Mack Hansen, who finished off a stunning cross-field kick from Prendergast, added further tries before the break, leaving Ireland with a commanding 28-3 lead at halftime.
Second Half Surge
The hosts didn’t ease up after the break. Bundee Aki added another try just seven minutes in, but Fiji responded through Kitione Salawa, who crossed for a consolation score.
Ireland’s Power Play
McCarthy, who had already registered three assists, barged over from a maul to kick-start a chaotic five-minute period. Fiji responded with Setareki Turagacoke’s try, but things took another turn as the replacement was sent to the sin-bin.
Hansen’s Second and Kelleher’s Final Flourish
With the game already out of reach, Hansen grabbed his second try in the corner, and Ronan Kelleher rounded off a superb display with Ireland’s eighth try in the final minute. A comprehensive win that leaves Ireland looking strong as the autumn series continues.
