With the 2023 Guinness Six Nations commencing this weekend, rugby fans have started talking about a memorable advert that was pulled from our screens.
The BBC Sport advert sees fans of the home nations all cheering for England, with the reveal being “The Six Nations, it’s not about who you want to win… it’s about who you want to lose.”
BBC Sport decided to pull the advert ahead of the 2012 competition, over fears that it was anti-English.
However, the rugby community enjoyed the joke in good spirits, and for years have watched the video as an annual Six Nations tradition.
Many rugby fans believe that this is one of the best adverts that had been made for the Six Nations.
The video celebrates the home nations and their diverse backgrounds, with a grass roots focus that makes it relatable for fans of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Even if the BBC cancelled the advert, the rugby community won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.
