Dragons and Wales back-row Ollie Griffiths has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with a rare disorder following the discovery of a tumour on his spine.

The 28-year-old, who earned his sole Wales cap in 2017, had previously announced last month that he was receiving medical treatment. At the time, Dragons confirmed that Griffiths’ condition “required intervention” and that he would be unavailable for selection while undergoing treatment.
In a statement, Griffiths expressed his gratitude for the support he has received: “Thank you all for the kind messages and well-wishes over the past few weeks. I’ve had a lot of questions, so I wanted to provide an update and hopefully raise awareness about this rare condition.”
He revealed: “A few months ago, a tumour was found on my spine, and a biopsy confirmed it as Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis—a condition that sees only around 50 new cases in the UK each year.
“While it’s not the outcome we were hoping for, the prognosis is more optimistic than we initially feared, and it’s less aggressive than first thought.”
Griffiths is currently undergoing mild treatment and is set to be reassessed in the near future. He added: “I’m feeling good and hopeful for some positive news soon.”
