According to the latest announcement from Atlas, the new owners of Worcester Warriors, there is a tentative agreement for Wasps to utilize Sixways as their venue for next season.
During a fully-attended fan forum held at Sixways, Atlas also disclosed that they have abandoned their proposed plan to change the Warriors’ name and rebrand the team as Sixways Rugby, due to the significant public backlash.
Although Atlas had previously indicated their willingness to acquiesce to the public’s demand, they have now officially confirmed that Worcester will continue to be known as the Warriors.
The team’s level of play for next season is yet to be determined. Co-owners Jim O’Toole and James Sandford have already shared their intentions to merge with Stourbridge, their neighbors in the National League Two West, which is two tiers beneath the Championship – where Wasps will be competing next season.
Nevertheless, Wasps have moved to deny the reports with a statement tonight.
The club wrote on Twitter: “Despite recent speculation, Wasps can confirm no agreement has been signed with any stadium & remain in discussions with potential venues.
“No agreement will be finalised without first consulting with relevant Governing Bodies and local communities that would be impacted.”
