Leicester Tigers have announced that 25-year-old tighthead prop, Will Hurd, has signed a new deal with the club.
A Leicestershire native, Hurd began his rugby journey at Ashby RFC. Despite his local roots, he qualifies to represent Scotland through his maternal grandparents. Hurd’s international career took off after representing Scotland at various underage levels, and earlier this year, he made his senior debut for his country.
Hurd’s rise in rugby saw him move from University Rugby to a brief stint with Glasgow, before joining Leicester Tigers ahead of the 2020/21 season. His first appearance for the club came in a Challenge Cup match against Connacht, and he has since gone on to make 44 appearances for the Tigers.
The tighthead prop has worked hard to develop his skills alongside fellow forwards, Dan Cole and Joe Heyes, at Oval Park, and his continued progress has not gone unnoticed.
Speaking about his new deal, Hurd said: “I’m delighted to be staying at the club. I’ve achieved some big goals of mine in the last 12 months and Leicester have been a big factor in that. I still have a lot of development left in me and there’s no club better than Leicester for me to do that.”
Leicester Tigers head coach, Michael Cheika, expressed his delight at the news: “We are very happy that Will has chosen to be with the club. He has been competing excellently inside of the squad in a very competitive position and is taking great steps forward. Will has played international rugby already this summer and I’m extremely happy his future is here at Tigers.”
With his talent and ambition, Hurd looks set to continue developing at Leicester Tigers, where he has already made his mark in both domestic and international rugby.
